Android 2.1 finally on Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro for Singapore

Finally! The Android 2.1 update for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro is finally available in Singapore. But of course, almost every Android phone is already on Android 2.2. Oh well, better late than never.

Here are the changes:

  • Larger home screen: The XperiaTM X10 now offers a five panel home screen instead of three, allowing for a 20 icon setup instead of the previous 16. Enjoy the flexibility of having space to organise your favourite applications, widgets, shortcuts and folders with ease.
  • Continuous auto-focus & HD video recording: The continuous auto-focus function now comes enhanced with greater clarity and responsiveness for a best in class HD recording experience.
  • Improved TimescapeTM usability:  Auto-scroll of social media updates and improved responsiveness enhance the TimescapeTM user experience.
  • Social Phonebook: Automatically syncing FacebookTM, TwitterTM and phone contacts with photos, the application shows when your friends are online and what they’re up to in one easy-to-use interface. (also available on XperiaTMX10 mini and mini pro)
  • Enhanced user experience: New functionalities and a world of applications from the Android™ Market at your fingertips. (also available on Xperia TM X10 mini and mini pro)
  • Preloaded apps (Singapore market only): A series of apps will be preloaded exclusively on all Singapore XperiaTM devices to further enhance the communication and entertainment experience for users. These include ShowNearby™ for Sony Ericsson, TrackID™, Evernote and OfficeSuite viewer. (also available on Xperia TM X10 mini and mini pro)

But here is the bad news for all owners – You have to go to one of the 3 Sony Ericsson service centres in order to update your phone (for now). You may call Sony Ericsson’s customer service hotline at 6744 0733 for further enquiries.

  1. I think it will be hassle to head down to the service center just for an update. I have an X10 mini(E10) and just updated my firmware to 2.1
    For instructions, visit:

Note: This only works with X10 mini(E10).

  2. I never knew that you need to take the phone to a SE service both for getting the phone updated. Is there no means i can do it with the PC companion or something?

    • I’ve heard some people are able to do the update with the PC companion, but that’s the official word from SE for Singapore is to go to the SE service center to update your phone. Have you tried updating from the PC companion?

  3. It didn’t work when I tried using the PC Companion. Oh well. Best if I go the service center. I own the X10i by the way.

    • Yeah. There are some apps they need to preinstall for you. Or that’s what SE tells me. Let’s hope it’s worth the trip. Let me know your experience with the new Android 2.1

  4. Thanks for the info. I would have tried to update on my own
and would have wasted time. Appreciate the tip. Keep up the good
    blogging. Cheers!
