The Sony Tablet S is an Android 3.2 Honeycomb device with a NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor, 9.4-inch LED-backlit TruBlack IPS screen (1280×800) and WiFi (no 3G), weighing only 598g and its unique asymmetric design conveys a sense of lightness. Sony Tablet S comes with a 5MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front camera, infrared to enable Universal Remote Control, DLNA to connect to other devices and the first Playstation Certified tablet.

A range of optional accessories is available for Sony Tablet S, including a cradle, AC adapter, LCD screen protector, carrying case and USB adaptor cable, as well as a Bluetooth keyboard.

Sony Tablet S is available in both 16GB and 32GB version for $668 and $798 respectively and will be available in Singapore at the end of October 2011. You can pre-order the Sony Tablet S at all Sony Stores (except T3), Sony Centres, Best Denki, Courts, Harvey Norman.

Initial thoughts:

  • I’ve held the Sony Tablet S, it really “feels” very light, even compared to the iPad 2 or the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1. Love the sleek ergonomic design.
  • The Universal Remote Control makes the Sony Tablet S a very good coffee table device.
  • The IPS screen has very good viewing angles, but it’s a fingerprint magnet.
  • I wish they had more content delivery service available for Singapore, like integrating their PSN content, video, music, e-books.
  • If the Sony Tablet S had, 3G would be a perfect device.
  • The Playstation games run very smoothly. Resizable and moveable onscreen controls and buttons.
  • I think the touch responsiveness still needs to be better and I attribute that to Honeycomb rather than the hardware. However, it’s obviously more responsive than other Android tablet device.
  • Uses a proprietary connector for charging and docking. Not sure if the microUSB can be used to charge the device.
That’s all folks. Would you buy the Sony Tablet S when it comes out? Or better still, pre-order the Sony Tablet S?

In Singapore, a survey of nearly 1,000 professionals revealed the top 3 office pet peeves to be:

  1. People not taking ownership for their actions
  2. Dirty common areas (such as a dirty communal microwave or refrigerator)
  3. Constant complainers

There were also gender differences in the findings.  For example, 57 percent of Singaporean women were bothered by “clothing that’s too revealing for the workplace,” while interestingly enough, only 29 percent of Singaporean men surveyed found that to be a problem.

Regardless of nationality or gender, however, the number one pet peeve of all professionals (selected by 78 percent of the more than 17,000 surveyed globally) is “people not taking ownership for their actions.” And, special note to job seekers: 74 percent of hiring managers in the Singapore are peeved by people “showing up late for meetings.”

What do you think? Do you have these office pet peeves? Find out how you can deal with various office peeves on the LinkedIn Blog: http://lnkd.in/office-pet-peeves.

Just a quick summary of Amazon Kindle Fire.

  • Looks like the BlackBerry PlayBook (pretty much is)
  • Runs a modified Android 2.3 gingerbread – very different interface, looks like a bookshelf
  • Gorilla glass 7″ multi-touch display with IPS, anti-reflective treatment, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution at 169 ppi, 16 million colors.
  • 1GHz TI OMAP dual-core CPU
  • 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage
  • ~413 grams, 190 mm x 120 mm x 11.4 mm
  • Only WiFi, no 3G
  • USD$199, available on 15th November (no international yet)
  • Amazon’s Appstore for Android (no access to Google Android Market), Kindle books, magazines, movies, tv shows, music, apps, etc. – Stored for free via unlimited Amazon Cloud Storage
  • Built-in email app + Amazon Silk (cloud-accelerated browser) + Amazon Whisper sync
  • No front/rear cameras, no microphone, no physical expandable storage (why? you’ve got unlimited Amazon Cloud Storage anyway), no GPS, no HDMI, no bluetooth

Would you buy it? I would, if they added 3G and made more content available in Singapore. That’s all I’ll need to be convinced to buy it. The price is right, the device is well built, and the technologies built around it is just simply amazing. Check out the advertisement on the Amazon Kindle Fire below.

Yummy. I just had a quick sample taste of the new Starbucks VIA Ready Brew and it has quite an interesting taste to it. The Starbucks VIA Ready Brew is an instant coffee that you just pour milk or water, either cold or hot, in and that’s it. Yes. COLD too! There are 3 types of Starbucks VIA Ready BrewItalian Roast, Decaf Italian Roast and Columbia.

It’s selling at all Starbucks outlets (I think) at SGD$3.90 for 3 single-serve sachets pack, or SGD$13.90 for 12 single-serve sachets pack. For this week only, if you buy the 12 single-serve sachets pack, you get a 3 single-serve sachets pack free.

Update: My friend from Singapore has gotten the update already. Anyone else?

Do you really think Mac OS X is safe from viruses and hacks? Well, Patrick Dunstan, famous for his article back in 2009 “Cracking Mac OS X passwords“, has found a security flaw within your Mac OS X Lion that essentially allows non-root users to easily view and extract the SHA512 hash using Directory Services (dscl command).

After getting the SHA512 hash, you can basically use your regular brute-force techniques to discover the user password. I’ve tried it out personally, so I know it works.

Interesting? Indeed. Check out his full article - Cracking OS X Lion Passwords.
