Next 2 key features of the Sony Tablet S is Connectivity and Entertainment. The Sony Tablet S wirelessly connects to DLNA compatible devices, such as Sony BRAVIA televisions, so users can “throw” their favourite photos and movies onto a big screen for greater enjoyment with friends, family and that special one. A built-in infrared sensor also allows the Sony Tablet S  to function as a remote control.

The Sony Tablet S is also the first series of PlayStation Certified tablets on which original PlayStation games like Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Heroes can be played anytime and anywhere. There’s actually more entertainment available like music, video and e-books, but there’s no word on whether if it will be available in Singapore.

Samsung-MDA Call-for-Proposal for Development of Educational Smart TV Apps

Samsung and the Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) announced a joint call-for-proposal for the development of educational TV apps for the Samsung Smart TV platform and ecosystem. This will provide opportunities for the local developer community to innovate and create rich and interactive education apps for the Singapore audience.

Starting from 26th September, the call-for-proposal will extend over a period of four weeks and will end on 31st October 2011. Interested developers are invited to attend the Call-for-Proposal briefing at 6pm, 26 September, at Genexis Theatre, Fusionopolis. Detailed information will concurrently be available on http://www.idm.sg from 26th September.

Shortlisted developers:

  • Will gain 24/7 access to Samsung’s Developer’s Forum (SDF)
  • Will have access to MDA’s testing centre – iJAM@Blk71, located at Block 71, Ayer Rajah Crescent
  • May apply for funding schemes from the IDMPO
The call-for-proposal will increase the choice of educational apps for Samsung’s Smart TV ecosystem and these apps will be made available through the Samsung Apps store, the world’s first application store for the television. More than 900 apps – designed specifically for the TV – are now available in over 120 countries with a monthly average download of more than 140,000 apps. Singapore takes back World’s Fastest SMS Texter Title

SingTel has successfully made an attempt to put Singapore back on top of the world’s fastest SMS texters proving that ‘Fast’ really is ‘Amazing’.

Jeffrey Teo Yi Hao, 25, a web programmer, clocked a speed of 23.40 seconds - more than two seconds faster than the current world record – in a bid to smash the time of 25.94 seconds set by Melissa Thompson in London, UK, last year.
SingTel will be submitting the time recorded by Jeffrey to Guinness World Records for its consideration.

The previous records, using button mobile phones, had always been fought with a margin of less than one second. Jeffrey’s 2.6-second margin over the previous record holder is commendable for a competition keenly fought all over the world.
