LEWIS PR recently conducted a study that examined how football clubs and their players rank on the social media scorecard. The study uncovered the most popular personalities through a range of factors such as the number of Twitter and Facebook followers, their level of interaction with fans, ease of online access, app developments and attached a score to each club/player.

HP Labs Project Fusion – Merging Social Media and Company Data to create Better Customer Intelligence

Live Customer Intelligence (LCI) is a technology developed by HP Labs that can be used to extract business value by merging company data and social media data. It allows the fusion of structured data (company data such as sales transactions, customer demographics, etc) and unstructured data (social media discussions including customer surveys, customer support logs, and other natural-language text), enabling companies to obtain real-time analysis and actionable business insights.

Methodology

Using HP Labs’ new text analytics technology, the team first converted the unstructured data into a structured format.  Then, human analysts used standard data-mining and statistical tools to analyze the two data sets together. In one case, social signals predicted support tickets with 90 percent accuracy. In another case, different social signals were highly correlated to sales.

Results

Dubbed as “Project Fusion”, the results show that when companies can fuse these data sources – and when text analytics capabilities are sophisticated enough – social discussions can be used to predict customer needs before they impact traditional business channels.

The study also highlights that collaboration between marketing and IT departments is critical to unlocking the business value of social media. The system used can correlate social media conversations about specific product features to actual customer transactions in real-time.

The text analytics HP Labs created are part of a broader “Live Customer Intelligence” project that includes data visualization, parallel processing, and other key components.

On October 25th, 2001, marks the beginning of Windows XP, the most successful (one might say overly successful) OSes ever created for its time. It was so successful that even after 10 years, many computers still run Windows XP. So I thank Windows XP for it’s long servitude for the past 10 years, and many best wishes to be put in the grave to Rest In Peace.

For those still using Windows XP, please upgrade to Windows 7 or buy a new computer with Windows 7? Let’s all help Windows XP rest in peace.

Algorithmically Generated Comic Book using You as the Protagonist

This is very cool!! I wonder if Nova Jiang will ever install this in Singapore for an art exhibition.

Ideogenetic Machine is an interactive installation that incorporates portraits of participants into an algorithmically generated comic book. The comic is created live through custom software using portraits of participants captured with camera and a database of drawings by the artist illustrating speculative narratives based on current news and events. The layout and configuration of images from which new narratives continuously form never repeats. The software adds blank speech bubbles into the composition, which participants can later fill with their own invented dialogue. Thus, each participant is transformed into the protagonist and the creator of a unique comic book.
