The key takeaways of the Apple’s “Let’s talk iPhone” event are the iOS 5 release on 12th October, better hardware for the iPhone 4S, improved camera and Siri. iPhone 4S will be available in Singapore on 28th October. Now, here’s the summary:

Cards App

  • Create and mail beautiful cards right from your iPhone or iPod touch.
  • It’s a new app that let’s you create cards on your phone, and Apple will do the rest.
  • Apple will print them out, emboss them. You can choose between 21 designs.
  • Apple will print it on high quality 100% cotton paper.
  • Apple will print it and mail it, with push notification on mail delivery through USPS.
  • $2.99 in the US, $4.99 anywhere else.

iOS 5

  • Notifications Center
    • You can see your notifications on the lock screen, and you can swipe to go directly to that app.
  • iMessage
    • new messaging service between iOS users.
    • You can send text, photos, video. You can get read receipts.
    • iMessages are pushed to all your devices. They’re sent over 3G and Wi-Fi.
  • Reminders
    • allows you to create reminders like pick up dry cleaning… and they can be location based reminders with geo-fencing.
  • Twitter integration
    • integrated Twitter with iOS and into many of the built in apps, like Photos.
    • Tweet photos, web sites, videos, locations from maps. Deep integration from Twitter.
  • Newsstand
    • read publications on your iOS device.
    • download new issues in the background.
  • Camera
    • get to the camera from the lock screen.
    • You can add grid lines. You can pinch to zoom. You can set the auto exposure and auto focus to lock.
    • Edit photos on-device; crop, rotate, remove red-eye.
  • Game Center
    • Adding achievement points, photos, friend recommendations
  • Safari
    • Reader
      • take the story on the page, format it perfectly on the device, it’s all loaded so you can just scroll through and read it.
