Businesses in Singapore potentially save S$4.38 billion due to Virtualization

The IDC Server Economies Index revealed that a total of S$4.38 billion worth of spending is expected to be avoided in Singapore from 2003-2020 due to the impact of server virtualisation.

How?

  • S$2.38 billion in server spending costs saved due to not buying a server– more than half of the costs avoided in total.
  • S$624 million in power and cooling costs saved due to not having to power and cool a physical server in the datacenter.
  • S$60 million in floor space costs saved in not having to buy land and not having to foot construction cost associated in housing a physical server.
  • S$1.32 billion in server admin costs saved, including IDC’s estimate of the cost of people and overheads needed to manage each physical server.

As more enterprises adopt virtualisation in the other areas of the Software-Defined Data Centre, they are also exploring new opportunities in saving costs, such as networking, security and storage.
