Dinner with the Dancing Crab at The Grandstand

Dancing Crab is another restaurant that has the 50% discount for two with my American Express Platinum Credit Card’s complimentary Classic Far Card Membership and the PALATE programme, so I decided to make my way to Turf Club (a very long bus ride and walk) and try out this much talked about seafood restaurant opened by Tung Lok Group back in April this year.

Firstly, don’t expect the service to be amazing. When you call for reservations, you’ll be greeted by an automated machine and later receive an SMS that provides a link to the reservation page online. Usually the restaurant is fully booked if you’re trying to make a reservation on the same day. However, not to worry. You can try your luck by going early (around 5-6pm) for dinner and hope there’s table available. Furthermore, when it gets really crowded, the service staff becomes overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people.

Alright, with that said, so what is unique about Dancing Crab? It is a very casual, New Orleans style of dining perfect for family (please make a reservation!) that’s fun, messy and very cosy. The best part? The various succulent crabs available, from the common Sri Lankan crabs to the Canadian Dungeness Crab. Even the Boston Lobster and Alaskan King Crabs are available. Oh, did I mention it gets messy? You eat everything with only your hands!

I selected two main dishes – the “Cold Seafood Platter”, and one “Sri Lankan Crab” (1kg) with mild Dancing Crab Signature sauce.

Cold Seafood Platter

What can I say? The cold seafood platter that cost SGD60 (SGD30 with the 50% discount) is extremely worth the price – a mixture of 250g of Alaskan King Crab, 4 oysters, 300g of prawn, 250g of mussels. I could totally go for two platters if I knew it would have been this good. The oysters were plump and juicy; the prawns were sweet and fresh; the mussels were decent; and the Alaskan King Crab was to die for – succulent meat just waiting to be slurped up.

The Alaskan King Crab is to die for – You have to order the Cold Seafood Platter.

Sri Lankan Crab (1kg) with Dancing Crab Special mild sauce

For SGD58 (SGD29 with 50% discount) and one large crab with lots of crab meat, it is pretty worth it. However, don’t expect anything out of this world with a Sri Lankan Crab. But I must say, they have the meaty-est crabs I’ve ever encountered. You won’t be disappointed.

You will not be disappointed with the amount of meat from this Sri Lankan crab.

Overall, I spent around SGD80 including GST, drinks, and after the 50% discount for two from Amex, which makes this one of the cheapest and best seafood restaurants (for the price) I’ve ever been to. This is definitely worth going!

One of the best fresh seafood

A little out of the way, but it's always crowded over the weekends. Casual and fun, perfect for family gatherings. The seafood is also great, especially the Alaskan King Crab. Use your fingers to eat every last bit and don't forget to lick your fingers.
