Chat Bots Platform wins Microsoft Imagine Cup Singapore with customer care solution

Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition that is held annually, inspiring countless students over the years to dream and build original solutions that can change the world. Into its 14th year this year, the competition in Singapore has attracted a total of 65 project entries from 150 students representing 7 tertiary institutions, presenting a wide range of innovative applications, games and solutions that have the potential to influence gaming, healthcare, education and environment fields.

Bagging the trophies for the 3 categories – Innovation, World Citizenship, and Gaming – are Team Natural Conquistadors from Singapore Polytechnic, Team Yuuy from Nanyang Polytechnic and Team Holy Trinity from Singapore Polytechnic respectively.

The winners will be advancing to the Asia Pacific Semi Finals to compete for a chance to represent Singapore at the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals in Seattle, where the ultimate winner will be crowned the Imagine Cup 2016 World Champion, and walk away with the coveted Imagine Cup trophy and up to US$50,000 in cash and prizes.

Innovation Category

Winner for Innovation Competiton - Team Conquistadors (NYX)

NYX is is a customisable chat bot platform to transform event planning and end-to-end customer care. With NYX, events attendees can easily pull the information they need by simply having a casual conversation with the chat bot. Team Natural Conquistadors from Singapore Polytechnic used Microsoft Azure Machine Learning, DataLake and Project Oxford to enable NYX to respond naturally to users with natural language processing techniques.

World Citizenship Category

Winner for World Citizenship Competition - Team Yuuy (Ruth)

Ruth the Social Robot is an interactive social robot to assist the elderly in Singapore as a personal assistant or companion. Ruth moves and interact in a natural way, able to listen, understand speech, context, and also verbal answers, recognise faces and respond to user’s emotions and display expression feedback. Team Yuuy from Nanyang Polytechnic used Project Oxford, Windows 10 Speech Recognition and Synthesis to achieve the natural interaction.

Gaming Category

Winner for Games Competition - Team Holy Trinity from Singapore Polytechnic (Imagine)

Imagine is a role playing game about a fantasy world Aferion, using the Kinect sensor to detect body motion and hand gestures to interact with the virtual world. The story revolves around the protagonist, Cliff Owen, going into the library one day and finding a mystical book in a dark corner. Upon opening the book, a blinding light flashed and incapacitated him. With excitement, he set out on his journey to explore this mystical world, discover the strength of his powers and return home.
