SamKnows is an international broadband research specialist and they are doing a survey that’s backed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). It’s the “Singapore’s first objective broadband performance benchmark study”, and they are looking for 900 volunteers to participate.

The study will help identify areas for improvement to ISPs, a vital step in bringing top-notch internet services to local users. As part of the study, volunteers will receive reliable reports about the service they are receiving which can be used by ISPs to diagnose issues with an Internet connection.

Volunteers can sign up for the study anytime by visiting: http://www.samknows.sg. They will be sent a small, purpose-built ‘Whitebox’ device that plugs into their internet connection. When a volunteer’s broadband line is not in use, the Whitebox runs a series of automated tests to measure the speed and performance of the connection.  The device only tracks bandwidth speeds and does not collect or track personal internet usage.

For more Information about this study, go to http://www.ida.gov.sg/Publications/20061206120929.aspx.

A few of you already know, but many do not yet know. A new chapter of my life will be starting from 23rd April 2012. I’ve got a full time job at Research in Motion (RIM) as a Application Development Consultant.

I know many of you will have questions, and here’s a FAQ of what will happen going forward.

===

1. What will happen to JustinLee.sg?

I will continue to blog about relevant news and my personal thoughts as usual. The difference is that the frequency will be lesser, but I will do my best to schedule most of my posts everyday. Those looking to engage me, you can continue to do so, but you’ll have to try harder this time to catch my attention with my limited amount of time.

However, I will not be able to write about anything RIM or BlackBerry related, unless it is already public knowledge. Majority of my RIM or BlackBerry related posts will be about application development.

I will still be able to attend events, but it will be limited to after office hours, unless I have leave or off-in-lieu to clear.

2. How about Tech65 Pte Ltd?

I will continue to be part of Tech65. I will be taking a more backseat Editor role within Tech65, maintaining quality, managing the editorial calendar, video editing, etc. As much as I can, I will continue to be a Content Producer. I will still own “First Looks” among other shows.

As a company, I will be managing the operations, building relations, streamlining processes, working at a strategic level as I’ve always been doing.

You can continue to engage me. I will be delegating out media invites and coverage to the others on the team.

3. And Hackerspace.SG Pte Ltd?

Nothing changes here. I will continue to be part of the community at Hackerspace.SG Pte Ltd.

4. What do I do (and not do) at RIM?

I am not part of the consumer team within RIM, therefore I do not have any say, nor will I know (or can comment on) product lineups and the future of BlackBerry devices. Sorry guys, I won’t be able to help you with your BlackBerry device problems.

I am part of the Developer Relations team within RIM. So if there are any developers who might be interested to develop on the BlackBerry platform, or have problems on the development experience, environment, SDKs, or anything to do with application development can feel free to approach me. I will do everything in my power to help you.

5. With my limited time, how am I going to manage?

That’s why I’m looking to hire a Personal Assistant. Do not be surprised if you don’t get me but another person. My PA will be helping me manage my calendar schedule, keeping in touch with you, and sorting out all my emails for me. My PA will also be handling most of the day to day tasks that I do every day, and will probably be the person you’ll be contacting most of the time.

I apologize beforehand if this seems impersonal, but I will do my best with whatever time I have to continue to maintain my relationships with all of you.

===

Otherwise, I’m still the same person as I’ve always been, just with lesser time on my hands. If you have any questions or have any doubts, don’t hesitate to send me an email and I will answer them.
