I did this talk at this year’s Community Technology Update 2012 at Blk 71 on 7th January 2012. Apparently, HTML5 is the highlight for the Developer Track.

HTML5 is the next wave of development for the web, with the support from IE9 and IE10. Even Windows 8 will support native apps written in HTML5. This session will give an overview and a deeper dive into writing effective HTML5 together with your existing ASP.NET experience to create the best next generation web experience.

Slides are after the break. Continue reading »

Google is in the midst of the largest redesign in its history, with more changes to come. Many have wondered who let the designers out of their cage at Google and set them on the path of making Google’s products more focused, effortless, and elastic. You’ll be surprised at the answer (hint – who else?). Jon Wiley, lead of the user experience team from Google, shares what has changed with Google at UX Week 2011.

Hilarious, but it is so true. This is exactly what happens in most cases. How would you sell F# to your boss?

Windows Phone 7.5 Mango Updates are currently being rolled out to all phones right now, and if you’re like me, I’ve been waiting and checking for updates for the past few hours trying to get the update. For those not as eager as me, or wants to find out more about when the updates are available, you can always check Where’s My Phone Update? for the latest global status info.

Apparently it’s currently being delivered to all Windows Phone 7 users in Singapore, so I hope I’ll be able to get it soon.

Update: My friend from Singapore has gotten the update already. Anyone else?

Do you really think Mac OS X is safe from viruses and hacks? Well, Patrick Dunstan, famous for his article back in 2009 “Cracking Mac OS X passwords“, has found a security flaw within your Mac OS X Lion that essentially allows non-root users to easily view and extract the SHA512 hash using Directory Services (dscl command).

After getting the SHA512 hash, you can basically use your regular brute-force techniques to discover the user password. I’ve tried it out personally, so I know it works.

Interesting? Indeed. Check out his full article - Cracking OS X Lion Passwords.

Awesome presentation by Bob, who isn’t afraid to blaze technology trails, and he has the arrows in the back to prove it. You may remember him from his awesome PyObjC efforts, and his latest triumph is using Erlang to power an ad network for flash games. Listen in as he introduces the language+environment and waxes poetic about hot code reloading, fault-tolerant runtimes, concurrency oriented programming and function pattern matching.

Erlang isn’t my favorite language, but after watching this, that might just change. Good to watch too when you’re learning F#, about mailboxes and various other concepts.

When can I use… is a website that shows the compatibility support of HTML5, CSS3, SVG and more in desktop and mobile browsers. Great resource for web developers trying to figure out which desktop or mobile browsers support which features of HTML5, CSS3, etc.
