Hey what did I tell you? That’s the Motorola RAZR, and it will be available at all three local telecommunications operators – SingTel, StarHub and M1 – starting from early November.

Here’s the quick rundown:

  • 1.2 GHz dual core processor with 1GB RAM
  • 4.3″ Super AMOLED with Gorilla Glass and splash-guard coating (even on the electronic boards inside)
  • Super thin body with sculpted glass and diamond-cut aluminum accents and KEVLAR fibre coating
  • Running Android 2.3.5
  • Motorola MotoCast app, the power to stream or download content from your PC straight to your device
  • front-facing 720p HD video camera and 8-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • Smart Actions – a preloaded app on Motorola RAZR that lets you automate everyday tasks and enable better battery life

What do you think? I’m drooling already.

Just a quick summary of Amazon Kindle Fire.

  • Looks like the BlackBerry PlayBook (pretty much is)
  • Runs a modified Android 2.3 gingerbread – very different interface, looks like a bookshelf
  • Gorilla glass 7″ multi-touch display with IPS, anti-reflective treatment, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution at 169 ppi, 16 million colors.
  • 1GHz TI OMAP dual-core CPU
  • 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage
  • ~413 grams, 190 mm x 120 mm x 11.4 mm
  • Only WiFi, no 3G
  • USD$199, available on 15th November (no international yet)
  • Amazon’s Appstore for Android (no access to Google Android Market), Kindle books, magazines, movies, tv shows, music, apps, etc. – Stored for free via unlimited Amazon Cloud Storage
  • Built-in email app + Amazon Silk (cloud-accelerated browser) + Amazon Whisper sync
  • No front/rear cameras, no microphone, no physical expandable storage (why? you’ve got unlimited Amazon Cloud Storage anyway), no GPS, no HDMI, no bluetooth

Would you buy it? I would, if they added 3G and made more content available in Singapore. That’s all I’ll need to be convinced to buy it. The price is right, the device is well built, and the technologies built around it is just simply amazing. Check out the advertisement on the Amazon Kindle Fire below.

Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V is one of the first new products to launch with the new software and will include all the features like Google Talk with Video Chat, 3D sweep panorama and enhanced Facebook inside Xperia functionality. Building on the success of the original Sony Ericsson Xperia neo launched earlier this year, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V takes the latest Android software for smartphones and the best of Sony entertainment experiences, including Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, to even more markets. Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V will be available in Asia-Pacific, including Singapore, from Q4 2011.

Sony Ericsson will also be releasing a comprehensive upgrade to its 2011 Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphone range to include new functionality and features starting from October 2011:

  •  All 2011 Sony Ericsson Xperia smartphones will be upgraded to the Android 2.3.4 version of the Gingerbread platform with new features including Google Talk with Video Chat for smartphones with front-facing cameras.
  • Updated Facebook inside Xperia functionality for enhanced like, share and discover abilities.
  • Xperia smartphones introducing world’s first 3D sweep panorama functionality powered by Sony.
  • The software upgrade enables consumers to turn their Xperia smartphone into a mini-mobile PC by connecting USB peripherals (mouse, keyboard or game controller) to Sony Ericsson LiveDock multimedia station. Connect the smartphone to a TV via HDMI to get a big screen experience.
  • Swipe text input – text input by swiping the finger from one letter to the next.
  • Screen capture – allows the user to share a screen grab from anywhere in the phone.

The LG Optimus 3D takes the smartphone experience into new territory with its Tri-Dual configuration – dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory – which allows for improved performance when multi-tasking, viewing graphics-intensive websites, enjoying a movie or playing graphics-intensive games. The LG Optimus 3D is also a major step forward in the utilization of full 3D functionality in everyday life – users can record and immediately view content in 3D without the need for special glasses.

The LG Optimus 3D will be available in Singapore at the end August (estimate 26th August) at a recommended retail price of S$938.00 inclusive of GST.

My take? Here are the pros:

  • Best overall smartphone catered for creating 3D content, viewing 3D content, and sharing 3D content.
  • Covers all areas including conversion from 2D content to 3D content.
  • Bundles 3 games and 7 more free games playable in 3D.
  • Automatic realigning algorithm should your stereoscopic cameras mis-align due to drops.
  • Best flicker-free and glasses-free stereoscopic LCD screen, however you need to position the phone and your eyes properly.
And cons:
  • Still running Android 2.2 Froyo, upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread in Q4. But by then, wouldn’t Ice-cream Sandwich be almost out?
  • It’s still a little laggy, but it should be fixed on the final firmware and further upgrades to newer versions.
  • The 3D camera drains a lot of battery, and yes, the battery life is still not that great.
Will you buy the LG Optimus 3D?

The Samsung GALAXY S II features a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.27″ Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, weighing at 116g and 8.49mm thickness, with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform. This superstar device is poised to take Singapore by storm on the month of June 2011 (most likely towards the end).

With the next generation TouchWiz UX technology (version 4), together with the various Samsung Hubs, the Samsung GALAXY S II will offer an unprecedented content experience rivaling any mobile phones out there.

Together with the 4.27″ Super AMOLED Plus, making improvements in screen size, colour gamut and power consumption, and 1650 mAH high capacity battery, you won’t be constantly looking for a phone charger in the middle of the day.

The Samsung GALAXY S II will also come with the following features:

  • Live Panels, Motion UX gestures, 3D graphic effects
  • B2B solutions like Cisco WebEx & VPN, Sybase Afaria, Exchange Activesync
  • USB OTG (On-The-Go) which will come later as an update
  • Embedded video player that supports .srt subtitle files

Not only that, the Samsung GALAXY S II has several exclusive partnerships with the following companies:

  • B-Secure (security)
  • Citibank (online banking)
  • Clozette.co (fashion)
  • EZ-Link (card management)
  • PhillipCapital (trading with POEMS)
  • Radioactive (interactive music)

As you can see, I’m very impressed with the Samsung GALAXY S II. However, I feel it’s a little too big and thin for me, but great for people who likes that form. Why can’t they add a larger battery to fill up additional space of this already anorexic phone?

The Samsung GALAXY S II (16GB) will be available in June 2011 at S$998 (inclusive of GST), without line contract.
