ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is the world’s first tablet featuring the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor and to be unveiled with Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which will be available through an over-the-air update on 12 January 2012.

RRP:

  • Eee Pad Transformer Prime + Docking station: SGD$899 (GST Included) [UP: SGD$1098]
  • Eee Pad Transformer Prime (Tablet only): SGD$759 (GST Included) [UP: SGD$899]
  • Docking station: SGD$199 (GST Included)

First Thoughts:

  • I love how amazingly light (586g), slim (8.3mm), and extremely responsive the device is.
  • Up to 12 hours of battery life, with 18 hours when coupled with the docking station.
  • Super IPS+ screen with 600 nits of brightness – in comparison with the ~400 nits on the iPhone and iPad.
  • 8 MP (f/2.4) rear camera + 1.3 MP front camera – coupled with ICS new camera features like panorama, the camera actually is useable.
  • The sound (SonicMaster technology) is clear and loud, however the speakers are behind so you’ll still have to cup the speakers to hear the audio properly.
  • The NVIDIA Tegra 3 comes with 4-core CPU + 12 core GPU + 1 extra CPU core for low-power processing. This essentially allows the battery life to last up to 12 hours.
  • It is 3D capable. Plug in your Transformer Prime into a 3D capable monitor or TV and you can display your games in 3D (with those 3D glasses) while the games are playing in normal 3D (think 3D flattened to 2D) on your Transformer Prime.
  • My verdict? This is the best buy EVER Android ICS tablet for now (yes, even better than Motorola XOOM 2).

Recently I had the fine opportunity to figure out how to search and compile all the tweets into a spreadsheet, be it Excel or Google Spreadsheets. So I’m going to document this down for the benefit of everyone.

There are 3 steps to doing this:

  1. Getting the search data using the Twitter API
  2. Using that as a data source in Excel or Google Spreadsheet
  3. Populating and saving the data
1. Getting the search data using the Twitter API

For those not so computer savvy, this just means that you’re identifying where the data is for Excel or Google Spreadsheet to suck in the data from. It’s better if you use Google Chrome for this, because Internet Explorer will try to automatically download some of these files instead of displaying them.

Firstly, type the following in your browser:

http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=<YOUR SEARCH>

where <YOUR SEARCH> is what you want to search for (can include spaces too), without the angle brackets “<” and “>”. This should give you 15 results back. If you want more results, you can add the following in your browser:

http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=<YOUR SEARCH>&rpp=100

where  rpp means the number of results you want to get back. The maximum is 100 per search only. So what happens if you want more than 100? Then you do the following:

http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=<YOUR SEARCH>&rpp=100&page=2

where page is the page number. So page=2 will return the next 101 to 200, page=3 will return the next 201 to 300, and so on.

http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=justinlee&rpp=100

http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=justinlee&rpp=100&page=2

Save all these links, as above, somewhere once you’ve verified all the data you want to get back. We’re going to use these links so that Excel or Google Spreadsheet can suck up this data.

For more complex searches, check out Twitter Search API.

2. Using that as a data source in Excel or Google Spreadsheet

So now you’ve determined where these data are located (based on the links you’ve just saved), now we can use Excel or Google Spreadsheet to grab these data.

First, let’s take a look at using Excel 2010. Note that Excel 2011 for Mac is unable to do this, so you’ll have to fall back to Google Spreadsheet.

Go to the “Data” tab and select “From Web”. Now paste the FIRST link you’ve created just now and “Import Data”. You’ll get to choose which cell you want the data to be imported to, and done. You’ll see all your twitter data populated into your Excel sheet. Now proceed to the next step.

For Google Spreadsheet, the caveat is you can only import 20 rows at a time, so remember to set your “rpp=20″.

Select the cell you want to start populating your data in, and type the following in the cell:

=ImportFeed("")

Now proceed to the next step.

3. Populating and saving the data

Now that you’ve populated the 1st page, it’s time to put in all your data.

For BOTH Excel and Google Spreadsheet, you should copy and paste the data to another sheet before repeating step 2. After you’ve duplicated the data to another sheet, then REPEAT STEP 2 with the next link you have.

After you’re done importing all the data, you can start analyzing your Twitter data with your Excel/Spreadsheet magic. Have fun!

I’ve been using the gmail app for the past few hours, and it feels very much like the online version. I find it a little unresponsive, where it required a sec or so to react when you want to view an email.

But the quick access to the various labels are very useful, together with the push notifications and the quick shortcuts to archive, delete, etc. However, they don’t have support for selecting the different email addresses to send out to that are connected to your one gmail account at the moment.

I like it, but it could have been more optimized. I was expecting the same features as everyone. It feels like a web app (if it isn’t already) packaged into an iPhone app.

You can download at the iTunes Store – Gmail.

Google+ Pages is finally available. A Google+ page will be a brand’s identity in Google+, enabling them to connect with their customers and fans in unique ways. It’s pretty much like a Facebook Fan Page.

  • Posts: Page owners can post messages, videos, pictures and links on their page. The page and public posts will be visible to anyone, not just Google+ users.
  • Circles: With Circles, page owners can reach the right people with the right message. For example, a business can create a circle of its most loyal customers and send special offers only to that circle.  Or a company with different types of products, say TVs and stereos, could create different circles for fans of each.
  • Hangouts: Hangouts enable brands and other entities to have real conversations with people face-to-face over video chat.  A band could jam online with their fans or the owner of a business could directly answer customers’ questions.
  • +1 Button: Google’s +1 button appears on ads, search results and across Web sites, allowing people to signal their approval of a site, brand or place. All those +1s will be reflected on the company’s page.

Anyone with a Google+ account can set up a page at plus.google.com/pages/create.

I’ve just created my own blog page on Google+. Check it out and follow me - https://plus.google.com/112290004776472583114
