First Thoughts:

  • Surprisingly functional for a luxury phone.
  • Supports the latest technologies like NFC (Yes NFC), 8MP Rear Camera, 1GHz Dual-Core, Advanced NOVA display, etc.
  • However, you can probably get a phone with the same specifications for 2/3 the price.
  • Upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 in 2Q 2012.
  • Very sturdy build, slim, with a big screen. Very similar to the successful Samsung GALAXY S II, except with the brand PRADA.
  • The accompanying accessories (aka PRADA branded) makes it a well-rounded brand.
  • Verdict? I say great phone for women!

Nokia N9 is built for people who appreciate a stunning blend of design and the latest smartphone technology, offering a one-of-a-kind user experience.

The Nokia N9 introduces an innovative new design where the home key is replaced by a simple gesture: a swipe. Whenever you’re in an application, swiping from the edge of the display takes you home. The three home views of the user interface are designed to give fast access to the most important things people do with a phone: using apps, staying up to date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities.

The industrial design of the Nokia N9 is an example of extreme product making and craft. Its body is precision-machined from a single piece of polycarbonate which flows seamlessly into beautifully formed curved glass with a curved scratch resistant screen. The laminated, deep black display creates a seemingly floating user interface.

The Nokia N9 is available in three colors – black, cyan and magenta, with storage options of 16GB (SGD$799) and 64GB (SGD$899) at all 3 operators in Singapore – Singtel, Starhub and M1 – starting in October.

Initial Thoughts of the Nokia N9:

  • Love the design, love the hardware, love the new UI.
  • Would I buy it? No – it’s going to be the one and only Meego device out there. Support is questionable in terms of long term strategy.
  • Since most of the “innovations” on the Nokia N9 are done under the “Disruptive” category, i.e. Nokia N9, rest assured that you will see these innovations in future phones – so why buy the Nokia N9 then?
  • Would you buy it? Maybe – if you want to stand out over the rest, i.e. not using an iPhone, and using the ONLY Meego phone and you’re looking for a stylish phone but don’t care much about support.
  • Don’t get me wrong, there will be apps available since it runs the QT development platform, that means most Symbian apps will be available on the Nokia N9.
