Nokia N9 is built for people who appreciate a stunning blend of design and the latest smartphone technology, offering a one-of-a-kind user experience.

The Nokia N9 introduces an innovative new design where the home key is replaced by a simple gesture: a swipe. Whenever you’re in an application, swiping from the edge of the display takes you home. The three home views of the user interface are designed to give fast access to the most important things people do with a phone: using apps, staying up to date with notifications and social networks, and switching between activities.

The industrial design of the Nokia N9 is an example of extreme product making and craft. Its body is precision-machined from a single piece of polycarbonate which flows seamlessly into beautifully formed curved glass with a curved scratch resistant screen. The laminated, deep black display creates a seemingly floating user interface.

The Nokia N9 is available in three colors – black, cyan and magenta, with storage options of 16GB (SGD$799) and 64GB (SGD$899) at all 3 operators in Singapore – Singtel, Starhub and M1 – starting in October.

Initial Thoughts of the Nokia N9:

  • Love the design, love the hardware, love the new UI.
  • Would I buy it? No – it’s going to be the one and only Meego device out there. Support is questionable in terms of long term strategy.
  • Since most of the “innovations” on the Nokia N9 are done under the “Disruptive” category, i.e. Nokia N9, rest assured that you will see these innovations in future phones – so why buy the Nokia N9 then?
  • Would you buy it? Maybe – if you want to stand out over the rest, i.e. not using an iPhone, and using the ONLY Meego phone and you’re looking for a stylish phone but don’t care much about support.
  • Don’t get me wrong, there will be apps available since it runs the QT development platform, that means most Symbian apps will be available on the Nokia N9.

M1 mobile service is down right now because they are having some technical difficulties, and they do know about it. Hope they’ll be back up soon. Here’s what M1 has to say:

We are experiencing technical difficulty on one of our customer management servers, and mobile services to some of our customers are temporarily disrupted. We would like to express our deep apologies for the inconvenience caused. Please be assured that we are putting all available resources to promptly rectify this issue.

Update: It seems that M1′s service is back up. Anyone else still having connection problems?

Our mobile services are progressively being restored, to the affected customers. We envisage full service restoration, shortly. We would like to thank our affected customers for their understanding and patience, whilst we worked on restoring services to them.

Update: They have given the reason behind the failure. Seems like a faulty card. Let’s hope something like this doesn’t happen again.

M1 Limited sincerely thank our affected customers for their understanding and patience during the network incident on 18 May 2011.

When the problem first surfaced, the top priority was to restore service to the group of affected customers. To this end, efforts and resources were concentrated on identifying and troubleshooting the affected complex network elements, and the process was complicated by the need to avoid disruptions to all other customers hosted on the other servers. We finally traced the problem to a faulty card in one of our backend systems, and the problem was resolved at 7.30pm.

Our continual priority is to ensure service to our customers and further actions are being taken to enhance the robustness of our network elements.
