ScriptTD is an open source project that allows anyone to easily create a new Tower Defense game for the Windows Phone 7 platform, without any prior programming knowledge by changing settings, sounds, and graphics. These games can then be sold in the Zune Marketplace. Developers can also extend out the engine to handle new features and game styles.

Great for kids to get into game programming on their Windows Phone 7 phones.

Microsoft just released a refreshed version of the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh.

What’s in the Kinect for Windows SDK Beta Refresh?

  • Driver enhancements: stability fixes to prevent crashes, including those that appear when a PC goes into sleep mode
  • Runtime enhancements: refinements to a number of APIs, improvements in time-stamping, and the removal of non-functional APIs to alleviate confusion (they will be reinserted if and when the functionality becomes available in future releases)
If you have any feedback or problems, you can go to Kinect for Windows SDK Forums and post your questions there.

Ayende has written a very good set of blog posts reviewing how Microsoft N Layer App Sample showing how DDD N-Layer architecture is done. He goes through almost every flaw in the sample and explains briefly why it’s wrong. It worth the read, and you learn a lot of anti-architecture. His last words for his review on this Microsoft N Layer App Sample:

I can’t emphasize this enough, avoid this codebase, don’t look at it, and never try to follow anything shown there, it will end in tears, pain and suffering.

The Microsoft Surface 2.0 SDK makes it easy to create engaging experiences, using multitouch and object interaction, for the next generation device for Microsoft Surface – the Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface.

The Microsoft Surface 2.0 SDK is a set of controls, APIs, templates, tools, sample applications, and documentation for application developers.  Using the familiar .NET Framework 4.0, Windows Presentation Framework 4.0 (WPF) or XNA framework 4.0, and the Microsoft Surface 2.0 SDK, developers can create applications that take advantage of the new PixelSense technology delivered in the Surface 2.0 platform. The Microsoft Surface 2.0 SDK replaces the Surface Toolkit for Windows Touch beta that was released in 2010.

Application developers can now download the free Microsoft Surface 2.0 SDK and take advantage of training and resources at www.msdn.com/windows/surface

Finally! HTML5 & CSS3 standards support for Visual Studio 2010. Download it now!

HTML5
VS Web Standards Update provides you intellisense and validation for most common HTML 5 features like:

    Browser APIs

    • Geo-Location – Having location aware websites is growing trend and now you will have full intellisense and validation within Visual Studio for creating websites which are location aware.  For sample view the source for the IE9 test drive demo.
    • Local Storage – IE has been supporting local storage from IE8 onwards, now Visual Studio will provide you with full fidelity intellisense to create sites which can save state within browser.  For sample of try view source on HTML5 Demo Site

    CSS3

This update supports intellisense and validation for most of the CSS3 modules including:

Additionally, if you are trying to make websites which work on a variety of platforms and browsers you will love the fact that Web Standards Update not only supports IE specific prefixes like –ms; but also other vendor prefixes like –webkit and –moz.

    Sharable Links

PS: The Web Standards Update works on both VS 2010 SP1 and VWD Express 2010 SP1.  Being a VS Extension, it does not support certain CSS3 selector syntax & Browser API intellisense which would require servicing the shipping bits.
